On behalf of Main Street Waterbury, we are pleased to present the ninth issue of Celebrating Downtown. Since MSW became a designated program within the Connecticut Main Street Center in 2003, our mission has been to work towards a clean safe and friendly downtown. We have consistently and successfully worked hard towards that end and continue to do so. Our volunteers have impressively logged in over 26,000 hours to date and we see the benefi ts of their dedication in the awards we receive from the Connecticut Main Street Center. Their recognition and acknowledgement of our accomplishments allow us to maintain our National Accreditation status from Main Street America, our National Main Street center, now for a fourteenth consecutive year.

Our success in meeting our goals would not be possible without the overwhelming support of our Board of Directors, committee volunteers, loyal partners, generous donors, and downtown stakeholders. In particular, we greatly appreciate our partnerships with the City of Waterbury and Mayor O’Leary’s Administration and Economic Development Offi ce, Waterbury Development Corporation, Waterbury Regional Chamber of Commerce, University of Connecticut Waterbury Campus, Connecticut Main Street Center, Connecticut Community Foundation and so many more organizations who in the spirit of teamwork, openly embrace our eff orts for downtown Waterbury’s revitalization.

A new era of investment and related projects is currently underway in downtown Waterbury and as these exciting development plans continue to unfold, so to do our efforts to not only sustain our successful projects and programs but to look towards the future with a renewed sense of pride for a beautiful City Center. The articles in this issue of Celebrating Downtown will give you an update on our progress and hopefully inspire you to become involved with us as we strive to realize our vision for Downtown Waterbury as “an easily accessible regional center and neighborhood in which to live, learn, work, and play.”
