Resource Development Associates of Watertown has opened a new EPTAC training facility in its offices at 686 Main Street, Suite 200, in Watertown.

New Hampshire-based EPTAC, which stands for Electronic Process Training and Consulting, is the largest certification company for electronics in North America.

According to RDA President Rich DuPont, his firm has worked with EPTAC for 15 years to provide electronics-related training services to manufacturers, but recently decided to add the new facility to offer incumbent-worker training for the latest in technology certifications. That includes training for printed circuit board solder standards, board inspections, rework and repair, he said.

“We cover PC board fundamentals, as well as design and counterfeit components,” DuPont said. “It’s a full menu of services that comply with IPC (Institute for Printed Circuits) and J-Standard training for electronics. J-standard also applies to cable and wire harness technology.”

EPTAC’s Connecticut Training Center at RDA, which opened in July, is fully equipped and serves up to 10 students at a time. Training session can range from one day to one week and are held during daytime hours Monday through Friday. “We can be flexible,” DuPont said. “We can accommodate larger groups than 10, and we can do work onsite” at a manufacturer’s facility.

Fees depend on the program and number of workers involved, but the training is eligible for assistance from the state Manufacturing Innovation Fund’s Incumbent Worker Training program, he said.

The facility adds to a menu of services provided by RDA, which also provides energy management, workforce development, and quality systems designed specifically to improve productivity and fiscal performance.

“We recognized this as a niche area many years ago in Greater Waterbury,” DuPont said.

“There are quite a few electronics-based manufacturers, as well as those that depend on electronic technology, and equipment and repair. The industries we serve include defense, aerospace, medical device, communications, automotive,
and information technology.”
